SoulSistas And SoulBruthas! I hope all is groovy in your world! Nothing like the freedom of a day off, and the good times of playing records. A couple of these are recent finds, the incredible O’Donel Levy & Larry Willis LP’s on the Groove Merchant label were particularly smile inducing. Somehow Donald Byrd’s “Street Lady” has eluded me until now. Some cool late 70’s Jazz/Funk/Boogie records from Hank Crawford (KUDU) and Eric Gale. Always nice to add a Bob James gem to the collection. Ubiquitous and funky drummer, Steve Gadd, plays on Bob’s record as well as the Crawford & Gale joints. Man, his touch was on a ton of records in the 70’s. Top it off with two of the greats, Maynard Ferguson with a massive arrangement of “Spinning Wheel,” and Quincy Jones’ theme for the film, “The Anderson Tapes,” and you got loads of tight musicianship all through this mix!!!
I hope you DIG!
Peace and SOUL,
